Weekly Classes
In a regular week, the following classes take place:
Shabbat:
Parashat HaShavua (the weekly Torah reading)
At 9am on Shabbat mornings, join Rabbi Shlomo in the Shul to explore themes in the weekly Parasha (Torah Reading). Please check the front page of the website for as the time may change if the Shacharit (morning) service starts early on a particular Shabbat.
Sefer Shofetim (the Book of Judges)
The Book of Judges contains fascinating background to the history of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. It features well known Biblical characters such as Samson, Delila, Gideon and Deborah. This class is with Rabbi Michael approximately 1 hour before Mincha (afternoon prayers) on Shabbat afternoon. Please check the front page of the website for the exact time each week. Takes place at the Shul.
The Ladies Group
With Rebbetzen Lynndy Levin on Shabbat afternoons at the same time as Mincha (afternoon prayers), in the flat upstairs in the Shul building. This group looks at individual topics of Jewish law or philosophy over several sessions, with refreshments. Please check the front page of the website for the exact time of the class each week.
Seuda Shelishit Shiur (shiur=class)
With Rabbi Shlomo after Mincha (afternoon prayers) on Shabbat afternoon during Seuda Shelishit (the Shabbat afternoon/early evening meal) in the Shul hall. This text based class looks at miscellaneous subjects of topical interest. Please check the front page of the website for the exact time each week.
Wednesday night:
Talmud Shiur (the Talmud is the main body of Jewish law and ethics)
Taught by Norman Turner on Wednesday nights in the Shul, 8.45pm-9.45pm. The shiur is currently studying Masechet (Tractate) Berachot. New participants can join at any time. You do not need to have a background in Talmud study as long as you are able to follow Hebrew text as Norman teaches. Contact Rachel in the shul office for more details at Rachel@southhampstead.org
Sunday and Wednesday:
Advanced Youth Classes
These classes are for teenagers who wish to further their textual learning skills, with the aim of ultimately becoming independent students able to keep developing their Jewish studies. Contact Michael at michael@southhampstead.org for details.
