There are many ways of giving to a community of which money is only one.

Helping

Supporting our members

Our SHare team is here to provide practical and emotional support for our more senior or vulnerable members as well as anyone who needs an extra helping hand in difficult times through illness, bereavement, family upheaval or isolation.

We can call for a friendly chat or visit, deliver shopping, or arrange meals for families with a new baby, in times of crisis or when sitting shiva.

If you are in need of our support for any reason, even just feeling overwhelmed, please contact the SHare team on 020 7722 1807 or email share@southhampstead.org. All contacts are confidential.

SHare is run by voluntary members. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact us.

Supporting the wider community

South Hampstead also engages in social welfare activities in the wider Camden community.
Please see the section on ‘Engagement with the Wider Community’ in the ‘Shul for All’ box on the Home Page.

Approximately half of South Hampstead Synagogue’s annual budget is covered by membership fees. The Synagogue relies for the balance on voluntary donations, often generously made by members at the time of a simcha or other significant life event.

Education Fund

This fund is used to support the large number of activities the synagogue runs and is used mainly to subsidise all our activities and particularly activities for children and young people, including the Cheder.

GEMACH – Free Loan/Charity Fund

This fund is used to support members of the community facing financial difficulty who need assistance. Rabbi Shlomo & Rebbetzin Lynndy Levin and three lay members administer this fund. They are the only ones who know who the recipient is and the support is given in an absolutely confidential way that retains the recipient’s dignity.

Israel Fund

The Israel Fund is administered by a group of members who seek out little-known Israel charities who do not have a presence or fund-raising capacity in the UK. The recipients are carefully researched and a maximum of £5,000 is given to any one charity per annum. Some extraordinary and special projects in Israel have been the grateful recipients of this fund.

To donate to South Hampstead in general or any of the specific funds please contact the Administrator Harvey Perlmutter or Rebbetzen Lynndy Levin.

Legacy

One of the most enduring ways to give to a community is via a Legacy. It is a way of saying ’thank you’ to the community of which one has been part and a lasting contribution to its continued flourishing for the next generation.
